In Memoriam - Director Morey Nelsen

Morey Nelsen

It is with a very heavy heart that the District announces the passing of Director Morey Nelsen.  Morey passed peacefully in his sleep at home on December 18th, 2023.
Morey initially took the oath of office for the District's Board of Directors on December 15, 2012 and was serving during his third consecutive term. In addition, he also served as the District's representative on the Stinson Beach Village Association.  Outside the District, Morey served on the Board of Directors for the Seadrift Homeowner’s Association and was a volunteer for West Marin Senior Services.
Morey was a retired civil engineer with over 38 years of engineering management experience, including with his own firm. He was also a pilot and accomplished aerial photographer, with his work exhibited at the West Marin Senior Services office. Morey was an avid football fan and closely followed his alma mater the San Jose State University Spartans, and the San Francisco 49ers.
Morey is survived by his wife Susie, son Chris and daughter Kim. He was a pillar of the community, a true gentleman, and will be deeply missed.

New 5G cell tower proposal

As we have been discussing for the last few months, the District has been approached by AT&T with a proposal to build a new 5G cell tower at our Highlands Tank site (end of Avenida Farralone, up the hill) to increase cell coverage in town.  The District’s Board of Directors has been evaluating the proposed tower design, how it may or may not impact residents and the surrounding environment, and how it may impact District operations – especially its water meters.

The Board has not made a decision on whether to allow this new tower and held its first public hearing on the issue on January 20, 2024 to solicit public comment.

Thank you to all who participated in this meeting – a lot of good information was presented and the Board is evaluating all the information presented. For those of you who were unable to attend this meeting, the Board will likely hold an additional public hearing to solicit additional comments and answer questions that were not answered during the first public hearing. Please stay tuned – once the second public hearing is scheduled, we will post plenty of notice around town, here in our newsletter, and on our new website: stinsonwater.org to ensure that everyone has another  opportunity to participate.
