In Memoriam – Chris Kelley

With the passing of Chris Kelley, the District has contracted Russ Lincoln from North Marin Septic Services to help us conduct our regular onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) inspections.  This is a temporary solution until a new Environmental Health Specialist is hired to bring this capability back in-house.  In addition, Stew Oakander has been promoted as the interim wastewater supervisor to manage our wastewater program.

We are also taking this opportunity to revist our current OWTS inspection schedule.  In the past, all systems were inspected every two years and we are currently revamping the schedule so that moving forward, your system will be inspected every 12-18 months.  As a result, the District may be inspecting your system at different times of the year than in the past.  We will send inspection notifications to your mailing address on record at least 2 weeks prior to your scheduled date.  Please note that your presence is not required during the inspection.

Prior to inspection, you are required to have all OWTS elements accessible.  This means clearing away all ground cover, plantings and debris back to a minimum distance of 24 inches to ensure hatches, riser lids and covers are accessible and can be opened and/or removed.  This is also required for all diversion valves, purge valves, and diversion field monitoring wells.

Upon completion of inspection, the District will continue to issue a Notification of Completed Inspection or Maintenance Order(s) listing all required corrective actions, if any. You are then required to comply with all conditions within the required timeframe indicated on all Maintenance Orders.
